CHILDREN’S MUSEUM & THEATRE OF MAINE exists to inspire discovery and imagination through exploration and play. The Museum & Theatre serves as an indispensable resource for families and educators, helping to create a broad community devoted to children's development and learning.

OUR ORGANIZATION

·        The Museum & Theatre is a significant and valuable community asset, offering a broad and diverse array of educational and cultural enrichment opportunities especially developed for children and the adults who accompany them.

·        The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine is a hands-on, interactive learning environment with exhibits designed for children 18 months to 12 years old.

·        The Museum offers exhibits and programs focused on early childhood educations, science, art, and culture.

·        Our Maddy's Theatre host productions designed to engage young audiences, inspire imagination, and spur community building.

OUR RICH HISTORY

The Children's Theatre of Maine was founded in 1923, and is the oldest continuously operating children's theatre in the U.S. The Children's Museum of Maine was founded in 1976. The Theatre and Museum merged in 2008 to form the Children's Museum & Theatre of Maine, the only combined children's museum and children's theatre in the U.S performing for children, by children.

OUR EXHIBITS

 The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine offers visitors interactive exhibits that have been designed to create experiential learning and fun at the same time. We are a hands-on and family centered experience for the entire family.

These interactive spaces are grounded in the science of play and the latest research on how children learn. Each exhibit is an opportunity for visitors of all ages to learn about their world through dramatic role play, hands-on exploration, navigating immersive environments, and taking safe risks.

The building features over 30,000 square feet of exhibits spanning three floors and the Outdoor Adventure area. These spaces reflect Maine’s unique character and encourage exploration across a broad range of subjects, from STEM and the arts to the cultures and traditions that form the fabric of our community
