St. Barnabas Center for Ministry

St. Barnabas is a faith-based nonprofit organization committed to serving at-risk, low-income children in the uptown area of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. We are a joint venture between the local Episcopalians and Lutherans, representing the Episcopal Diocese of Lower Susquehanna Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Currently, we have two main venues for outreach. Our first program is the after-school tutoring program which emphasizes the intertwining of character education and academic excellence by inviting children to form relationships with community members who care enough to see them weekly and tutor and mentor them while they complete their homework and try to understand life. Our second program is the summer program which gives children an opportunity to spend their summer enjoying spiritual enrichment, community involvement, sports, and crafting activities.
