Virtual mentoring is safe, fun, and impactful!

Our structured and evidence-based program features online lessons, facilitated by staff, followed by small group breakout discussions and activities, facilitated by mentors and supported by staff, that reinforce the day’s lesson. Mentors received training and support before, during, and after every session.

The year consists of 16 one-hour sessions (one per week) on a scheduled day and time beginning in November and ending in May. All mentoring happens online via Zoom. Mentors can participate from their home, office or favorite coffee shop.

Our mentors come from the local business community and represent all professional, ethnic, cultural, religious, and family backgrounds. They genuinely believe in our program and are dedicated to helping local teens achieve success.

The mentoring process begins with prospective mentors filling out an application. We then conduct virtual interviews and background checks. Those applicants who are placed participate in two online training seminars. Then the mentoring begins – it’s that easy!

The program helps students develop life and job readiness skills, explore careers, and create academic and career strategic plans. Students leave our program better informed and prepared to overcome challenges and achieve success.

Mentoring is a very meaningful way to make a real difference. The University of Michigan Youth Policy Lab recently analyzed our program and found: Our program has a greater impact on students who are not initially college-bound; our program has an equitable impact for all students, regardless of race, economic level, or gender; and compared to non-Winning Futures students, our students improved their attitude, self-efficacy, growth mindset, and perseverance.
