Camp Kesem @ the University of Virginia

Working under the Camp Kesem Nationals, University of Virginia students coordinate Camp Kesem @ UVA, a free, week-long summer camp for children whose parents have or have had cancer. Since 2005, we have given over a hundred children affected by a parent’s cancer the opportunity to just be kids, with camp activities ranging from sports, arts and crafts, and cooking to “Cabin Chats" where campers can share their experiences with each other.

Our Mission:

To provide children affected by a parent’s cancer with a supportive, lifelong camp community that recognizes and understands their unique needs.

To empower college students to make a difference and build invaluable leadership skills by developing and managing every aspect of their Camp Kesem chapter.

Our Purpose:

Provide opportunity for campers to build self-esteem and gain support from their peers facing similar challenges. The students of the University of Virginia work hard to create a safe, nurturing, and fun environment for the campers.

Give Camp Kesem campers and counselors an experience they will never forget through the creation of long lasting memories and friendships.
