FriendshipWorks, Inc.

FriendshipWorks' (formerly MATCH-UP Interfaith Volunteers) mission is to reduce social isolation, enhance quality of life and preserve the dignity of elders in Boston and Brookline. We accomplish this mission by recruiting and training volunteers of all ages, faiths, and backgrounds who provide friendship, advocacy, education, assistance, and emotional support.

We provide care and assistance to frail elders who would otherwise face neglect and loneliness.

FriendshipWorks programs are distinctive. The Friendly Visiting program creates informal friendship matches, many of which become life-long relationships. Matches spend social time together, walk together, enjoy music together, and more. The Medical Escort program provides volunteers to help elders get back and forth to doctor's appointments. Our bilingual Jamaica Plain Chapter is breaking new ground helping Latino elders gain equal access to health care. Our PetPals program brings pets to visit nursing homes.
