Anova, Inc. is committed to optimal effectiveness in its behavioral services by providing the level of support necessary to assure success for both child and family. Services are provided in a variety of settings including individual homes, schools, adult day programs and residential homes. Services include the development of individually tailored training strategies to teach new and adaptive skills and the systematic reduction of behaviors that interfere with effective instruction. These service plans are developed by licensed and professionally accomplished Behavior Analysts, and are frequently delivered by trained and supervised Para-educators. Anova’s services are delivered to a diverse group of individuals such as “at-risk” youth, persons with psychiatric diagnoses, attention deficit disorder, learning disabilities, and the developmentally disabled. Anova provides behavioral and educational services throughout Sonoma County.

Anova’s In-Home component of our behavioral and educational consultation services is primarily provided to the developmentally disabled in our partnership with the California Regional Center system. The term “developmentally disabled” commonly refers to those labeled as having mild to profound mental retardation. Among the broad spectrum of individuals designated as developmentally disabled include those with Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, Pervasive Developmental Disorder, and autism. In addition to mental retardation, persons with developmental disabilities may exhibit a wide range of additional concerns including limited speech or communication, physical mobility problems, a tendency to forget skills when infrequently used, and trouble generalizing skills from one situation to another. In order to be effective for the developmentally disabled population, educational programs need to incorporate a variety of components to meet the considerable needs of these individuals. Educational services are likely to begin as early as the toddler years and continue into adulthood. The primary focus is upon increasing the child’s independence in skills that provide for the expression of choice, communication, and daily living-skill development. Anova develops programs such as these for about 150 individuals annually, as well as delivering small group instruction to residential care homes, school staff, and community groups.
