KBGC’s Mission
Kingman Boys & Girls Club provides educational, cultural, athletic, recreational, and employment opportunities to young people 5 to 18 years old from the Metropolitan Area of Washington, DC to ensure that they are successful and socially responsible adults.
KBGC’s Origin & Function
The Kingman Boys Club was organized in December 1969 to address the needs of the community, especially the needs of young people, in a community torn apart by racial, social, and economic strife. Through the efforts of community leaders and neighborhood civic groups, the Club was founded as a safe, nurturing afterschool and Out-of-School Time environment that would provide educational programs and recreational facilities for thousands of boys and girls in the Shaw-Cardozo area of Washington, D.C. The goal has been and continues to be to enable the youth served to realize their full potential and become able and progressive citizens.
