Houston Chinese Youth Camp offers a range of classes that focus on Chinese culture. Since 1984 we have taught students Chinese Yo-Yo, Calligraphy, Arts & Crafts, Folk Dance, Chinese Choir, and more. Whether campers have come to camp to learn more about their own heritage or to broaden their views, they will have the opportunity to learn new things.
Everything we do is designed to highlight the importance of leadership. Divided into groups based
on age, campers are led by a team of high school-aged AC and Counselors. They are shown a model of effective leadership by their counselors and advisory staff and given the opportunity to become leaders themselves.
Although pool parties and dances are what makes our camp fun, the reason campers come back is the bonds of friendship they make. We works hard to foster self-confidence and to create an inclusive, welcoming environment for all. For many campers, CYC is the highlight of their summer, and many of our alumni continue those bonds throughout their lives.
Houston CYC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization run by a dedicated group of former attendees who volunteer their time, simply because they love camp. The camper fee is only $630 for a full week of activities, food and dorm accommodations. The cost of running camp is much higher - therefore, funding depends on the generosity and support of community organizations, businesses, and individuals so we are able to keep costs low for campers while providing a high quality of programming year after year.
