The Levy Park Conservancy is a private not-for-profit corporation formed by the Upper Kirby District to manage Levy Park through an agreement with the Upper Kirby Redevelopment Authority. Levy Park is currently under construction and scheduled to open in fall 2016. The park will serve as a central gathering space for residents and office workers in the Upper Kirby District and other nearby central Houston neighborhoods.
LPC’s vision for Levy Park is an active, vibrant “town square” that will host hundreds of programs and events per year, ranging from fitness classes to the Urban Harvest farmers’ market to concerts for up to 3,000 people. LPC has studied great public parks across the country and plans to bring best practices to the park’s operations, programming, landscaping, and maintenance; Levy Park will be run to the highest standards for an urban public space.
While Levy Park will remain a public park owned by the City of Houston, the ongoing operations of Levy Park will be funded entirely by LPC.As redevelopment in Upper Kirby continues to evolve, the Upper Kirby Management District and Upper Kirby Redevelopment Authority are pushing aggressive efforts forward in order to get in front of the growing density with needed infrastructure and pedestrian improvements that will allow Upper Kirby to grow smart without compromising the unique atmosphere, history and character that defines this remarkable urban place.
