Acerca de

Carter Burden Network promotes the well-being of seniors 60 and older through a continuum of services, advocacy, arts and culture and volunteer programs, all oriented to individual, family and community needs. We are dedicated to supporting the efforts of older people to live safely and with dignity.

Services include counseling, home visits, help with entitlement applications, daily money management, elder abuse intervention and prevention, on-site programming and volunteer services.

We realize our mission through various programs:

  • The Carter Burden Luncheon Club & Senior Program and the Carter Burden/Leonard Covello Senior Program are senior centers that provide socialization, recreation and education through daily breakfast and luncheon meals, activities computer training and holiday parties. The Covello center is open 7 days per week.
  • Lehman Village Senior Program offers art and craft programs as well as health and wellness activities. A daily luncheon program is served onsite and also delivered to the homebound.
  • The Carter Burden Roosevelt Island Senior Center provides a variety of socialization, recreation and education programs free of charge. Case assistance is offered to members/participants who need help in applying for government benefit programs, addressing landlord/tenant disputes, or accessing medical care. The center also delivers weekday meals to homebound individuals on Roosevelt Island.
  • Community Elder Mistreatment & Abuse Prevention Program (CEMAPP) combats elder abuse by assisting victims and providing community education programs in Upper Manhattan, both East and West Sides, 59th Street North.
  • Case Management and Social Service Units provide comprehensive services to both ambulatory and homebound individuals. Services include supportive counseling, help with benefit applications, crisis intervention, and advocacy.
  • Volunteer Services recruits and trains adult and student volunteers who assist at our senior centers, deliver meals to homebound elders, make friendly visits, telephone reassurance calls, provide shopping assistance and who also teach classes.
  • Caregiver Resource Program serves as a resource for unpaid caregivers of adults who are 60 years or older. It is designed to address the complex mental health needs of those caring for loved ones with a variety of diagnoses.
  • Three arts programs - Making Art Work, a multi-faceted program that provides art and craft classes to senior sites throughout Manhattan and in the Macy's Creative Arts Center located in our East Harlem senior center; Cultural Connections provides seniors with opportunities to participate in the artistic and cultural life of NYC and the Carter Burden Gallery which focuses on re-emerging older professional artists.

Because our programs serve varying neighborhoods, we are able to reach out to seniors throughout NYC.
