Our mission is to promote the science-based conservation of Asian elephants and their habitat. This entails supporting and communicating research on Asian elephants, and disseminating such information to relevant institutions, managers, decision makers and the general public. We focus on Asian elephants as keystone, flagship species that are ambassadors for threatened habitats, with some populations being critically endangered. There is a need for greater public awareness of the status of Asian elephants and the challenges of conserving their remaining range. Major problems for Asian elephants include conflict over agriculture, and loss of habitat due to human activities - particularly the expansion of plantations. Our aim is to draw attention to these issues and facilitate data-driven approaches to studying and resolving them.
