We Need Responsible & Dedicated Volunteers Like You!

The Humane Society for Greater Savannah is a non-profit organization, founded in 1962, that provides a wide range of services, primarily adoptions and health care services for dogs, cats and other animals.

Unlike government-supported animal shelters, like Chatham County Animal Services, the Humane Society for Greater Savannah cares for owned animals, those living as pets in homes in Chatham, Effingham and Bryan counties. Its mission is to better the lives of pets and people.

All adoptable dogs and cats have undergone spay or neuter surgery, testing for diseases specific to their species, and vaccinations prescribed for their species. Much of the work is performed at Pet Fix Savannah, a community-focused health care clinic for animals that is part of the HSGS organization. Pet Fix Savannah has assisted thousands of pets in the tri-county region through its low-cost, high-quality spay/neuter services and several basic vaccines including rabies vaccines, Da2ppv, Bordetella, heartworm tests and preventative for dogs, flea and tick preventative, FIV/FELV tests for cats, microchipping, deworming, and nail trimming. Operating four days a week, the clinic provided lifesaving surgery to over 10,500 animals and 17,022 vaccines, services and preventatives in 2016 and 2017.
