The Youth and Gender Welfare Association (YOGWA) Cameroon is a registered apolitical, nonprofit Organization (NGO) created in 2006. YOGWA is a leading humanitarian youth and women centered organization aim to develop an enabling environment for the effective growth and development of the less privileged youth and women with priorities on those in the rural areas through innovative programs.

 

YOGWA’S MISSION;

To promote human values through training and community out-reach programs, women and youths Empowerment Programs, formal education and vocational training program for vulnerable children and school dropout youth in view of building a sustainable community to improved standards of living. This will go a long way to enhance their opportunities to realize their full potential and awake the giant within.

YOGWA’S OBJECTIVES ARE;

Ø  Build the  skills and capacities of the youths through skill based education and professional training

Ø  Assist the needy,  children in prisons, orphanages, centers for the disabled and street children in the domain of social welfare

Ø  Leading less privileged women and youths to achieve their dreams through economic empowerment activities.

Ø  Provide health care assistance to the rural communities.

 

In line with its objectives YOGWA carry out projects in the areas of, children and youth education, women empowerment, primary health care, Agriculture, gender, human rights and governance in partnership with other organizations and structures.

One of Yogwa’s major activities is it elementary and secondary education programs. The elementary education program is aim at providing free and holistic education to the less privileged children and orphans. While the secondary education program is aim at correcting the pre-independence examination centred educational system in Cameroon that prepares children only for exams and not for the future.

Yogwa also runs a Vocational Training program which help to equip the less privileged youth and school dropouts with employable skills. To meet up with this challenge, we combine both skills development and general education.

Apart from the educational programs, Yogwa also runs women empowerment programs among others, with the aim of assisting extremely poor widows, less privileged women and families in the rural areas to work out of poverty. In it primary health care domain Yogwa runs three programs namely; the control and prevention of HIV AIDS and malaria through it national and local control committees for HIV/AIDS and Malaria, an annual health campaign aimed to reduce infant mortality rate in rural areas by controlling preventable diseases through vaccination. The fight against high maternal mortality in the rural areas. Today Yogwa operate in six of the ten regions of the Country.

RECOGNITION;

We are recognized by the Ministries of Secondary Education, Basic Education, Employment and Vocational Training, Women and the Family, Public Health, Social Affairs and the Common Wealth program of the Ministry of External Relations as an Educational,  Social Welfare and development organization in Cameroon.

YOGWA’S ACHIEVEMENTS SO FAR;

PARTNERS: We have had the opportunity and experience of executing projects sponsored by GIZ Cameroon, Common Wealth Youth Program through the Cameroon Ministry of External Relation, DCAS London, and Step up London, Sandown London, Afrique Futur, and the United Action for Children (UAC) Cameroon. Amongst others.
