Voices of Hope for Aphasia

Voices of Hope for Aphasia will provide support to individuals who are affected by Aphasia by providing a safe and caring environment for stroke survivors and those who have suffered from traumatic brain injuries. The VHA strives to provide survivors with the tools needed to live a rich and fulfilling life while living with APHASIA.

In the United States alone, approximately one million people a year are diagnosed with Aphasia. Unfortunately, the public is largely unaware of these startling statistics because our communities are uninformed; any effort to raise awareness about Aphasia is a valuable one!

Voices of Hope for Aphasia provides support to individuals who are affected by aphasia by providing a safe and caring environment for stroke survivors and those who have suffered from traumatic brain injuries. The VHA strives to provide survivors with the tools needed to live a rich and fulfilling life while living with aphasia.

The VHA program is centered around its members, who will attend our group program two days per week on a semester basis. A member will choose from our wide range of activities three of most interest to them.

Our groups are facilitated by licensed/speech/language pathologists, trained staff and volunteers.

Each group’s main purpose is to create an environment with supported communication. Through using tools such as spoken and written keywords, gestures, body language, pictographs, hand drawings and writing, a group session is designed to allow a member to feel comfortable, included, and understood, as well as assisting with accurate information, thoughts, and feelings.
