FOOD RESCUE US INC
Misión
The Food Rescue US Mission is to reduce food waste by rescuing healthy, usable and unsold food and direct transfer the same day to local shelters, soup kitchens and food insecure.
Acerca de
Volunteers use the Food Rescue app to help rescue from local hotels, markets, restaurants and arenas and stadium events. in 2019, FRUS-Miami has rescued over 670 times in the Miami area, direct transferred over 300,000 lbs. to local shelters which using USDA industry standard calculations equates to about 275,000 meals. Over 250 volunteers are registered to do rescues from over 80 donors to over 20 receiving agencies. Using their own vehicles, most rescues take under an hour door to door.
COVID19 RESPONSE: FRUS-Miami is currently looking for volunteers to help at our Community Kitchen distribution sites, be food runners delivering food to frontline hospital workers, and helping with NO CONTACT food distribution of meal packs.
The Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Law enacted by President Bill Clinton in 1996 allows for food to be donated in good faith without liability to the donor.
The app lists each available rescue and the matching receiving agency, and volunteers claim the rescues on the app.
Donations range from unused or unsold prepared food, pre-packaged sandwiches, salads, fruit cups, bread and rolls, canned and boxed non-perishables and baked goods.
