Rainwater for Humanity

Rainwater for Humanity is a student-run organization based at Brown University, that harvests rain to conserve water, empower women entrepreneurs, and boost public health in Kuttanad, India. We have optimized the design of rainwater storage reservoirs. Simple, sustainable, eco-friendly and made from locally available materials, each cistern stands adjacent to a house, capturing rain from existing rooftops and providing a family with a year’s worth of clean water. These structures are financed by a series of microloans. Rainwater for Humanity is also committed to working with the Kuttanad community and to that end is implementing a training program for local women, ensuring that they will eventually manage the reservoirs themselves. Thus, we can help the villagers of Kuttanad build better lives.
