CHERAB FOUNDATION INC

Lisa Geng founded the Cherab Foundation in 2000 after the diagnosis of both of her children with communication impairments. One of the diagnosis, apraxia, is a rare disorder with little to no support or research. Over 20 years later the Cherab Foundation continues to benefit the families of children with neurologically based communication impairments such as autism and apraxia by providing support, research, education, and advocacy while challenging stereotypes and perceptions. Our goal is to continue support and research as we expand our initiatives for socialization and awareness. Just because a child is quiet doesn’t mean they have nothing to say.

Our nonprofit initiated a unique proactive antibullying project which began with a spotlight on a bullied and/or alienated special needs child who in the past had nobody show up to their birthday party and were not invited to anyone else's birthday party. We held community birthday parties for these children in various states which has gathered national and international media attention. Since COVID, our volunteer team has been developing ways to transition our successful program into the schools. As passionate as we have been for two decades, we realize we have gone as far as we can on passion and are currently looking for grants to continue to expand our initiatives.
