We equip our students with skills in design, coding, and leadership through a summer camp centered on a project to build a website that solves a critical community problem. These programs help increase career possibilities for our students while empowering them to be a part of strengthening their communities. Our week-long BraveCamps run from 9am-5pm on a Monday through Friday, followed by a half day of presentations on Saturday. The first day of camp is centered on self-exploration and learning the basics of coding. The next day focuses on empathy development and human-centered design. Our students research their topic, conduct interviews, brainstorm technological solutions, and build prototypes. Days three and four are primarily spent on coding and building their websites based on the solutions and prototypes. During this time, they also learn how to craft a mission statement. On the fifth day, students publish their websites and learn public speaking skills for their project presentations. Finally, parents, friends, and community members gather on the sixth day to celebrate these Brave Girls and watch their presentations.
