    MISSION

“Working to convene community partners to build a just and sustainable food system.”

    VISION

We imagine a community where equity is inherent in our food system., This looks like:

    • Access to the food you choose,
    • Justice and respect for workers,
    • Thriving food economy,
    • Climate smart agriculture

    Values

Our work is centered around changing the food system. We strongly support our partners engaged in emergency food relief but we have a more long term focus. We work for a day when there is food independence - everyone can grow or acquire the food they choose. That means no one depends on food donations, government programs or other assistance. It’s not going to happen tomorrow but any other goal means leaving people living in a state of dependence.

Our work is centered around these key values:

    1. Community - we work to serve the community.

    2. Food justice - ensuring adequate food is vital but we must also support fairness for everyone in the food system, from the person who plants the seed to the person who tackles food waste.

    3. Empowerment - We believe each person has their own power. Our work is to remove barriers so each person can use their own power

    4. Equity - Racism and other forms of discrimination are key contributors to poverty and hunger. Anything that marginalizes people increases hunger so we must make extra efforts to support those who have been marginalized.

    5. Interconnected - We can’t address hunger in isolation. It's intertwined with poverty, poor pay, climate change, violence, worker exploitation, lack of healthcare, affordable childcare and education, environmental justice, housing and other barriers created by the injustices in our system. While we focus on food issues, we will connect and support these other issues when we can.
