Courageous Kids, Inc.

Courageous Kids was founded in 2010 by a child life specialist working in a hospital setting who recognized the importance of helping children cope with life-threatening medical conditions at home and in social settings, as well as in the hospital. She founded Courageous Kids on the belief that it takes both a supportive family and community to help children see past their fears, anxieties, medications, treatments, and pain; and provide hope that better days lie ahead. We hosted our first event for our courageous kids and their families in 2011.

Since our first event in 2011, Courageous Kids has enrolled more than 150 children and their families and currently has about 60 active families from all over Southeast Michigan. Our mission is to inspire hope by helping these kids cope with stress, anxiety, and countless hours spent undergoing medical treatments. We do this by providing fun and exciting events on at least a monthly basis in order to provide our courageous kids and their families opportunities for positive distraction, family bonding, and emotional support. With the support of our donors and community partners, we offer outings to professional sporting events, museums, and science centers as well as movie mornings, painting parties, theater workshops and more. We often hear from parents, siblings, and our courageous kids just how much they look forward to, appreciate, and enjoy participating in our events surrounded by kids and families who are dealing with similar issues; and all at no cost to our member families.
