CONNEAUT HUMAN RESOURCES COUNCIL INC
Misión
The Conneaut Human Resources Center (CHRC) developed a small Community Garden at the Center that has produced fresh produce for the Conneaut Food Pantry which included peppers, tomatoes, cabbage, broccoli, carrots and more to CHRC clients. This Healthy Produce Program provides nutritious alternatives to meal preparation as food pantry distribution is non-perishable food items. Currently, volunteers work their designated area and through the partnership of the Trillium Center and Leah Wolf, MPH, learn about planting, identification of plants, cultivating produce, and food preservation techniques.
Acerca de
The community garden emerged from a collaboration between the Conneaut Human Resources Center and the Trillium Center, both located in Conneaut. The program is called CHEWS, which stands for Choosing Healthy Eating for Wellness and Strength. Three years ago the Trillium Center conducted a survey to identify whether people receiving services at the CHRC would be interested in participating in food and gardening education. Many people expressed interest in ideas such as a community garden, a community-based incubator kitchen, and classes on growing, preparing, and preserving food.
