In 2017, "MALAS" introduced Toys for Joy as a special program that was believed to help effectuate the mission of the society. Our mission is to reach youth between the ages of 12-17 who live in homes of poverty, domestic violence, or those of underrepresented communities. This age group, we believe has been largely forgotten by many organizations who have a cut off age of 12 years old. Toys for Joy is still largely supportive of other causes and organizations. For example, in 2017 and 2018 the program volunteered 12 hrs. at Valley Children’s Hospital to wrap gifts for children. In 2018 the program coordinated with "Toys for Tots" to collect toys for over 300 children. This year, Toys for Joy plans to concentrate its efforts on teenagers. To date, 16 teenagers from foster homes are listed to receive a gift and our goal is to sign up at least 800 teenagers by December 1. The organization "Toys for Tots" has enlisted Toys for Joy to help fill a list of at least 50,000 kids. A portion of the donations and financial sponsorships will be used to purchase gifts, candy, gift wrap, boxes, bags, stockings, and tissue paper needed to wrap the gifts. A second portion will be used to purchase Christmas Trees and décor for homes of these teenagers. We hope that families will be able to share a tradition that they would otherwise not be able to partake in.
