Elders Learning Community

The Elders Learning Community is a participant-centered education and arts program for at-risk, frail, and homebound seniors in West Contra Costa County. Our mission is to support the growth and engagement of Seniors as they remain in their homes. We run a volunteer program that trains and connects volunteers with Seniors where they work one-on-one in areas such as art, writing, music, literature, history, science, computers, philosophy. We also hold painting and literature groups for Senior Participants that help foster community and self-exploration. The Elders Learning Community applies new research demonstrating that cognitive stimulation, personal growth, and social engagement are basic human needs. Our philosophy is that learning and creativity never ends!

The Elders Learning Community also fulfills geriatric case management needs by connecting Seniors to West Contra Costa County resources and services including Medical, Paratransit, Senior Peer Counseling, Adult Protective Services, Meals on Wheels, and the West County Health Center. We serve West Contra Costa County including the cities of Richmond, Pinole, San Pablo, and El Cerrito which have been historically disadvantaged communities with less access to resources.
