Seedling

  • Acerca de

Seedling is an Austin, TX nonprofit that supports children challenged by parental incarceration by providing innovative, research-driven, school-based mentoring.

More than 2.7 million children in the U.S. have a parent in prison. In Central Texas, it is estimated that more than 8,000 children have an incarcerated parent. Until now, there have been no systems in place to provide support for these children. In 2006, concerned school principals in Austin requested help for this growing population of children in their schools.  In response, Seedling Foundation's Mentor Program was launched.

Seedling Foundation’s in-school mentoring program is designed to provide children with a long-term, positive relationship to help them navigate the challenges experienced during an extended period of family separation; and, to help children develop or maintain positive attitudes towards connections to school, so that they may understand the critical need for education to achieve their long-term goals.
