Hoods to Woods Foundation is a BIPOC-led, remote-first nonprofit organization founded in 2009, dedicated to transforming how Black and Brown youth from underserved communities experience the outdoors.
Our mission is to remove systemic barriers to nature access by introducing youth ages 11–18 from the NYC tri-state area to snowboarding, mentorship, and outdoor education — all at no cost to families.
We believe outdoor access is a right, not a luxury.
For youth in the neighborhoods we serve, sirens are more common than silence.
We exist to change that narrative — by fostering joy, resilience, leadership, and environmental stewardship in places where it's least expected.
Our programs:
Our leadership is composed of Black and Brown outdoor enthusiasts who intimately understand the barriers our youth face — because we lived them.
We are not in the tourism business.
We are in the transformation business.
We are a values-driven organization committed to equity, liberation, leadership development, and dismantling structural barriers to outdoor access.
We work remotely and collaboratively with a diverse network of schools, nonprofits, funders, and community leaders.
Our impact speaks for itself:
At Hoods to Woods, we’re building not just a program — but a movement!
