Green Schools Alliance

Created by schools for schools in 2007, GSA is a global network of local educational institutions, each of which is represented by Sustainability Coordinators – faculty, staff, students, administrators and others – who are working together to solve environmental and climate challenges.

The GSA offers several programs plus a unique collaborative platform and a worldwide network of K-12 schools that are leaders in sustainability practices and actions.

The GSA helps Member Schools share and implement sustainable best practices, and it promotes connections between schools, communities, and their environments. GSA supports the schools by offering programs, exchanging resources, and creating peer- to-peer forums.

More than 3,000 schools (public, independent, international) in 22 countries and 42 states are GSA Member Schools; as of today, most of them are in the United States. Member Schools can be found in under-served communities in The Bronx, rural communities in Kentucky, as well as in countries ranging from Japan and India to Tanzania. Their network of environmental leaders includes approximately 2 million students, teachers, school administrators, and families.

In a relatively short time, GSA has gained significant momentum attracting the interest of schools in the U.S. and elsewhere around the globe and in identifying and recruiting public and private sector advocates who applaud GSA’s mission.

Green Schools Alliance has been incorporated, and is awaiting its non-profit status. Meanwhile, Green Schools Alliance began as a program of GEO: Global Environmental Options, and continues to be able to accept tax deductible donations through GEO until its separate 501C3 is established.
