Acerca de

Green-Wood is internationally recognized as one of the most beautiful and historic cemeteries in the world. Established in 1838, it is one of only a handful of America's cemeteries to have been designated a National Historic Landmark and was recently rated by CNN as one of the top ten most scenic cemeteries in the world, alongside the ranks of Pere-Lachaise in Paris and the Old Jewish Cemetery in Prague. It is the permanent residence of over 570,000 individuals. Green-Wood's magnificent grounds, grand architecture and world-class statuary have made it a destination for national and international tourists, New Yorkers and local Brooklynites. Its influence on the development of New York City's public parks is unmistakable. The creators of both Central Park and Prospect Park cite Green-Wood as their inspiration. Today Green-Wood is a dynamic institution with an expanding mission and ambitious vision for its future. First and foremost, Green-Wood is a not-for-profit cemetery 501c13 corporation regulated by the NYS Cemetery Board. Burials, cremations and commemorations are its core business activity. Green-Wood is an accredited arboretum of 478 acres and over 7,000 trees. Its 501c3 not-for-profit charitable institution, The Green-Wood Historic Fund, presents over 2,000 public programs and tours annually, including educational programs for local school groups. Its immense institutional archives and historic collection offer far-reaching opportunities for historic research.
