Stonewall Communities

We created Stonewall Communities, a non-profit organization, to better understand and advocate for the needs of older lesbians, gay men, and their friends. We strive to support and enhance the well-being and independence of gay men and lesbians in their choice to age at home or in a Stonewall community. We are committed to creating community among older lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgenders by creating residential, educational, social and supportive opportunities.

Our Boston area Member services program Stonewall Connections is a groundbreaking member services program being developed specifically for the benefit older members of the LGBT community living in the Boston area. Its purpose is to keep gay and lesbian seniors safe, active, creative and independent in their own homes and communities. We will do this by providing both direct services and referrals to pre-screened providers.

Stonewall Communities Lifelong Learning Institute at Wheelock College

The nation’s first lifelong learning institute designed especially by and for lesbians and gay men over 50 who have a passion for learning!

Stonewall Communities has partnered with Wheelock College to develop a lifelong learning institute designed for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender adults, held at Wheelock College. We invite you to join us as Stonewall Communities LLI offers stimulating learning opportunities designed for LGBT people age 50 and older who are not working full-time – and are therefore available on weekdays. Friends and allies of the LGBT community and people under 50 are welcome as well.

Stonewall Communities LLI offers 5- and 10- week courses, , as well as “lunch & learn” events; opportunities to meet and mentor students; and opportunities to research and document the history of gay New Englanders

Lifelong learning is a social and personal growth movement for people over 50. Sometimes called “senior colleges,” lifelong learning institutes do not require a college education, tests or grades – just a passion for learning!
