Mita Project is a 501(c)(3) organization with a bold mission: to empower smallholder farmers—particularly women and youth—by helping them thrive amid the growing challenges of climate change. In many parts of Africa, smallholder farmers are the backbone of the economy, but they face significant barriers to success—unpredictable weather patterns, poor soil quality, limited access to markets, and financial insecurity. At Mita Project, we’re addressing these challenges head-on with a holistic, four-step empowerment model designed to build resilience and improve livelihoods.
Over the last three years, Mita Project has worked with over 3,000 farmers in Cote d'Ivoire - 65% of whom are women, and 30% are youth. The impact has been incredible. Farmers supported by Mita Project have reported average yield increases of 35% per season and income gains of 25-40%. This translates into real improvements in livelihoods and food security, not just for individual farmers but for entire communities. By promoting sustainable practices, we’ve also seen improved soil health, greater crop diversity, and stronger food systems in rural areas.
What makes Mita Project truly transformational is our combination of regenerative agriculture with a tech-enabled, business-first model. Our approach is not just about providing inputs or training; it’s about creating a long-term, scalable solution that puts farmers at the center. Through mobile tools and direct market connections, we’re making fair, transparent trade accessible to smallholders who are often overlooked by traditional agricultural systems.
Unlike conventional models that typically rely on centralized systems or intermediaries, Mita’s integrated approach empowers farmers by giving them the knowledge, tools, and access to resources that foster independence and resilience. We’re bridging the gap between climate-smart farming techniques and equitable market access, which ultimately strengthens communities and economies.
As we look to the future, Mita’s work is more critical than ever. With climate change intensifying, the need for sustainable farming practices and climate resilience has never been greater. Our model is not only about making a difference in the short term; it’s about creating a scalable, adaptable solution for smallholder farmers across West Africa. As we continue to grow, we aim to expand our reach to even more farmers, scaling Mita’s impact across the African continent and ensuring that smallholders everywhere can thrive in the face of climate change.
At Mita, we’re not just changing farming practices; we’re changing lives. And with the right support, we can continue to build a future where smallholder farmers are at the forefront of the climate solution - creating a more sustainable and equitable world for all.
