  • Misión

    The mission of the Literacy Volunteers of Leon County (LVLC) is to promote and increase literacy in the community through the use of volunteers. The mission is accomplished through individual and small group instruction to improve the literacy levels of adult learners; individual and small group instruction to improve conversational English, reading and writing skills instruction for limited English proficient adults; and, outreach family literacy services. All instructional services are provided free of charge to learners.

    Literacy Volunteers of Leon County, a non-profit organization sponsored by the Leon County Public Library, trains volunteers to tutor adults with low reading and writing skills or limited English-speaking abilities. Literacy Volunteers of Leon County is supported, in part, by the Friends of the Leon County Public Library, the Florida Department of Education and United Way. A board of directors, made up of tutors, students, interested professionals and community leaders, sets policy, oversees operations, raises funds and promotes literacy. The organization is affiliated with Literacy Volunteers of America, Inc. Founded in 1962, LVA provides high-quality models for instruction and program management.
