Gifts for the Homeless

The mission of Gifts for the Homeless (GFTH), an all-volunteer non-profit organization, is to provide new and gently-used clothing to shelters and other organizations in the greater Washington, DC area, to help keep the region's homeless men, women and children a little warmer each winter. We do this by raising funds -- 100 percent of which is used to purchase new clothing items at bulk prices -- and by running an immense used clothing drive each winter.

For nearly 40 years, Gifts for the Homeless (GFTH) has been providing essential new winter clothing items and blankets, as well as good used clothing and accessories, to homeless shelters, soup kitchens, transitional housing facilities and other homeless support organizations in order to keep homeless men, women and children in the DC metro area a little warmer each winter.

100% of every penny we receive from the public each year is used to purchase and deliver at bulk pricing new warm coats, hats, gloves, socks, blankets and more – with a retail value of more than $1.5 million — to homeless support organizations throughout the DC/MD/VA metro area.

GFTH is an all-volunteer (501)(c)(3) nonprofit. We run the largest used clothing drive in the city each December. With the help of hundreds of volunteers, we sort and deliver thousands of bags of good used clothing, bedding and accessories to nearly 50 homeless support organizations across the metro area.

GFTH also hosts an exciting and unique once-a-year charity concert each summer, Banding Together: Battle of the Lawyer Bands. In recent years, the event has raised more than $225,000 – all of it used to purchase new clothing items and blankets for the local homeless population.
