Community Action Opportunities

Community Action Opportunities is a catalyst for individual, family and community change. We help hundreds of people each year to transform their lives. As a Community Action Agency, founded in 1964 by the Economic Opportunity Act, we work with citizens who live on limited incomes, elected public officials and private sector representatives to confront and solve the problems that cause poverty.

Head Start - provides comprehensive health, education, and family support services in Buncombe and Madison Counties for children ages 3-5 years and their families who live on limited incomes. Head Start serves children with disabilities.

 Life Works - assists adults who live on lowincomes in making the necessary changes to improve their lives and strengthen their families; now serving McDowell County, as well as Buncombe and Madison Counties.

 Weatherization - offers services to improve the health, safety and energy efficiency of the homes of people who live on low incomes in Buncombe, Madison, Henderson, Transylvania, Cleveland, McDowell, Polk and Rutherford Counties
