Incorporated in 1993, Wake Robin opened the community over 25 years ago and is Vermont’s premier Life Plan Community (formerly known as a Continuing Care Retirement Community or CCRC). It was founded by a group of local citizens as a place where older adults could live fully and remain active and independent throughout their lives. The essence of Wake Robin is summed up in its mission statement:
To create an active community of adults that honors both mutual support and independence and addresses the health and wellness needs of each resident.Wake Robin is a community in the best sense of the word. The mutual caring, support and respect among residents, staff, and Board of Directors is a hallmark of Wake Robin. The day-to-day functioning of the organization, as well as its long-range planning, is based upon maintaining this sense of community.
Wake Robin was named after the dark, reddish-purple flower in the trillium family found in the Vermont woods in early Spring. It is a symbol of self-renewal and promise—an apt name for this community because of the pride that residents, staff, and Board members take in its vibrancy.
