Our mission is simple but zealous: to create dream bedrooms for children with life-threatening illnesses.
A bedroom to most kids is a personal space, a place that represents his or her unique personality. For a child with a critical illness who spends a lot of time at home in his or her room, that room should be a very special space. This is a place only the child can dream or imagine while addressing their medical needs. Changing children's lives one bedroom at a time!
Special Spaces creates dream bedrooms for children with life-threatening illnesses. Once we receive a referral from the Children’s Hospital of Minnesota-Minneapolis, Special Spaces interviews the child to gain an understanding of his or her favorite colors, themes, and wishes. Donations from individuals, corporations, and community groups fund each child's room. These groups, if willing, can also provide a team of volunteers to help with the decorating and completion of the child's room.
Special Spaces designs the dream bedroom and secures all furniture, decor, and makeover supplies. On makeover day, the selected family leaves the home and the Special Spaces volunteers transform the child’s bedroom into their dream space.
