The Louisiana Museum Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded in 1981 to preserve, present and promote Louisiana's rich history and culture through the provision of support and services for the museums and collections of the Louisiana State Museum system. While the system is statewide, the Museum Foundation's work focuses on the museums in New Orleans French Quarter, including the Cabildo, Presbytère, Madame John's Legacy, the 1850 House and the New Orleans Jazz Museum at the Old U.S. Mint, and the artifacts and countless treasurers in the system's collections and archives. As an agency of Louisiana State government, the State Museum system is not equipped to accept and administer community support, which the Museum Foundation, as a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit, makes possible. We also bring history to life and make history happen through events and innovative programming, such as period costumed balls, exhibition openings, historical theatrical performances and reenactments, and engaging field trips for members and the public. Through our support of the Louisiana State Museum, we serve all individuals regardless of race/ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status and/or disabilities.
