The Serve Philadelphia VISTA Corps is an AmeriCorps program that places members in city departments working on anti-poverty projects.
Serve Philadelphia VISTA members serve full-time (30 hours/week) for one year focused on systems level change and capacity building within our city government. The role of Serve Philadelphia VISTA members is an important for moving the City’s anti-poverty strategy forward by:
- Increasing capacity for departments that serve low-income individuals and communities.
- Producing alumni who are civically engaged, passionate, and employable.
- Promoting best practices in community engagement and sustainable solutions.
Each VISTA position is unique to its department or initiative. VISTAs build capacity by:
- Creating tools, systems, and guides for a department.
- Generating resources through partnerships, volunteers, or grant-writing.
- Developing, organizing, and assessing programs, events, or meetings.
- Supporting, establishing, or strengthening partnerships across departments and sectors.
