NYC Autism Charter School

Acerca de

NYC Autism Charter School began as a project under the umbrella of the former New York Center for Autism, now New York Collaborates for Autism, a non-profit organization based in New York City. Two mothers who themselves understood the challenges of finding appropriate educational options for their sons, committed themselves to creating a new kind of school – one that would offer a high quality education to all of it’s students at no cost to their families. That vision became a reality in 2005, growing from just a handful of students and staff to eight classrooms currently serving more than 30 students. Our educational program offers individualized and evidence based instruction rooted in the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and a 1:1 teacher/student ratio in six of our eight classrooms. NYC Autism Charter School is fortunate to be co-located with P.S./IS 50 in East Harlem, providing our students with ample opportunity to interact with typically developing peers and the greater East Harlem community. NYC Autism Charter School continues to grow and expand our reach through professional development and conference presentations, community partnerships, our Peer Mentoring Program, and other dissemination efforts, spreading effective practices beyond our school’s walls. A new school in the Bronx will open in 2017.
