Our Mission Foundation for a College Education's (FCE) mission is to increase the number of students of color and low-income students pursuing, and graduating with, bachelors degrees by providing the necessary support and services to prepare them for college. Our Community FCE works towards closing the college-going gap in East Palo Alto and the surrounding areas. Only 11% of East Palo Alto residents hold a bachelor's degree or higher.FCE is attempting to change this statistic.
FCE students are promising youth of color who typically are from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, are first in their families to attend college, and have limited exposure to higher education.
FCE Mentors and Tutors are dedicated, caring adults ready to help our students through high school and the college admissions process. FCE always welcomes more mentors and tutors because we believe students need a lot of support (not coddling)!
Our Vision FCE is about more than simply getting kids into college. Our vision is to create community change and to significantly alter a community’s perception about the attainability of higher education. Our impact is beginning to be felt as we see the transformation among our families who now believe their children will go to college; it’s no longer just a dream. By engaging both students and parents in our work, we are creating a community of learners.
