Border Youth Tennis Exchange (BYTE) is a binational youth development organization that provides athletic, art, academic, and job readiness training to children and adults on both sides of the US/Mexico border. BYTE offers both public and institutional program tracks, specializing in locked facility initiatives to support displaced populations in Arizona, California, and Sonora (Mexico). BYTE hosts 14 in-person program sites, partnering with migrant and child-welfare shelters, state and municipal prisons, and in-residence facilities for adults and youth with developmental and behavioral disabilities. Founded in 2015, BYTE is one of 300 chapters that make up the USTA Foundation National Junior Tennis & Learning (NJTL) network. BYTE’s ultimate objective is to use sports as a lens to de-stigmatize border and incarcerated communities, and to highlight the impact sports diplomacy and sports-based interventions can have on community resilience, humanitarian aid, and public health.
