City Year Cleveland

City Year unites young people of all backgrounds for a year of full-time service, giving them the skills and opportunities to change the world.

As tutors, mentors, and role models, these leaders make a difference in the lives of children, and transform schools and neighborhoods in 24 ciies in the United States, and in London and South Africa. www.cityyear.org.

The Cleveland Metropolitan School District has enacted a comprehensive Transformation Plan to establish best practices in student achievement and school reform initiatives calling for fundamental, system-wide changes in our schools.

City Year Cleveland is proud to support this plan and is focused on significantly reducing Cleveland’s high school dropout rate. Diverse teams of eight to 10 serve in six Cleveland high schools to help students stay on track – or get back on track – to graduate. These teams serve all day in schools five days per week from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Two Fridays per month, corpsmembers engage in ongoing training, professional development seminars and community service projects in the neighborhoods they serve.

City Year corps members are part of the solution to this drop out crisis. As near-peers, City Year diverse, young leaders are uniquely able to collaborate with teachers to improve student attendance, behavior and coursework and identify and address non-academic student needs as well. This school-based service is at the heart of City Year’s approach to helping students and school succeed.

City Year also engages community members, corporate partners and civic leaders in volunteer efforts within Cleveland schools and transformative physical service throughout schools and city neighborhoods.
