The Haley House Bakery Cafe

Haley House Bakery Cafe, located in Dudley Square, is a social enterprise that provides healthy food at an affordable price while offering job training for ex-offenders, healthy cooking education to underserved youth, and cultural programming in a community rich with history and artistic expression. Launched in 2006, Haley House Bakery Cafe has become a celebrated gathering spot for people from the surrounding Dudley, Roxbury, and Boston communities.

The Cafe is rooted in Haley House’s origin in the soup kitchen, where in 1996 homeless men began a Bakery Training Program that taught baking and business skills to soup kitchen guests. Baked goods were sold to South End neighbors and, as support grew, the Training Program outgrew its home at the soup kitchen. In 2006, Haley House took the bold step of opening its doors in Dudley Square, where it has flourished in its ability to offer just employment and robust community programming.
