Chiiori is a 300 year old thatched roof farmhouse nestled deep in the mountains of Tokushima, Japan.
Alongside the continued care and upkeep of the house, we aim to establish a model of community-based tourism that works to sustain the traditional culture of the surrounding area in hopes of enabling the tourist industry to create and maintain a more harmonious relationship with the local community.
On a day to day level Chiiori operates as a fledgling organic farm, and a guesthouse and meeting point for locals and visitors to the area.
All volunteers will receive room and board, but are asked to make a small daily payment to offset food and fuel costs.
See the Chiiori Trust website or the position listings for details about volunteering.
