Beauty Bus is a nonprofit organization that delivers loving kindness, support, and compassion to patients and their caregivers through beauty and grooming services.
Beauty Bus operates with 4 general avenues of programming:
Beauty Bus creates Pop-Up Salons—one-day, on-site beauty experiences that bring professional hairstylists, makeup artists, estheticians, and nail technicians to hospitals and care facilities to provide free services to patients, caregivers, and staff. These events transform community rooms into welcoming salons, helping people step out of isolation and into a space of care and connection. In 2024 alone, Beauty Bus hosted 34 Pop-Up Salons across hospitals and care facilities. After a Pop-Up at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital, Ceyonne, the mother of 14-year-old Bella, who was battling cancer, shared: “The sense of normalcy in a place so far from normal meant so much to all of us. Mom received a haircut, grandma a facial, and Bella a manicure. They gave us all new energy to face the reality of what was to come. There is something kind and comforting when someone holds your hand or brushes your hair—a moment of peace and joyful distraction.”
Beauty Series are weekly services offered in partnership with hospitals and social service agencies, providing consistent, free beauty and salon services for patients and caregivers. This includes essential hair services and our newest offering—the Oncology Spa Treatment at Providence Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica—where a licensed esthetician provides a calming skincare experience to clients in infusion centers during treatment. Beauty Bus developed this model in partnership with Providence Holy Cross in Mission Hills and has since expanded to include four active Beauty Series programs: Providence Holy Cross, Providence Saint John’s (including the Oncology Spa Treatment), the Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center at Providence Saint Joseph in Burbank, and Ronald McDonald House Los Angeles.
In partnership with the ALS Network, our relaunched Home Visits program sees Beauty Bus providing a weekly service for clients in the ALS Network to book an appointment for services (hair, nail, and skincare) in the comfort of their own homes. Our organization began with visits to patients and caregivers at home, and we are thrilled to reintroduce this vital part of our origin story and mission. This program enables Beauty Bus to meet patients and caregivers where they are - offering moments of connection, care, and beauty at home.
Extending the impact of our programming, Beauty Bus provides each client with a Bag of Beauty—a thoughtfully curated collection of premium, clean beauty and self-care products generously donated by our product partners. These products help patients and caregivers continue the benefits of self-care routines beyond our one-day events. In 2024, Beauty Bus distributed 3,881 Bags of Beauty through Pop-Up Salons and partner organizations, reaching individuals in need of ongoing support, comfort, and care.
