Design Volunteer – Sustainable Architecture

About Us:

Delta Rising Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to sustainable, regenerative design. Through our Sustainability Architecture Initiative, we blend innovative architectural design with nature-based solutions to create cooler, more sustainable environments that enhance urban landscapes and support biodiversity.

Role Summary:

We’re seeking passionate and creative design students to join our team and contribute to our “More Shade for More People” initiative. This initiative focuses on developing sustainable, functional, and aesthetically innovative shade structures to combat urban heat islands while promoting community well-being.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with our interdisciplinary, regenerative architecture team to conceptualize and design sustainable shade structures.
• Design sustainable architecture elements that provide shade, green infrastructure, seating which collect their own water and solar energy to support the self-sustaining urban oases we design.
• Research innovative materials and methods to enhance eco-friendly architecture.
• Develop 2D and/or 3D design rendering and models for presentations.
• Potentially assist with shade solution testing to maximize the shaded area.
• Incorporate feedback and insights into design iterations.
• Potentially incorporate community ethnographic research into design concepts

Requirements:

• Currently enrolled in a design, architecture, or related program (e.g., d.school, product design, architecture, or similar).
• Strong skills in design tools (e.g., SketchUp, Rhino, AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, or your preferred).
• Passion for sustainability and interest in nature-based solutions.
• Creativity, teamwork, and a problem-solving mindset.
