ROLE OF AN ADULT ESL VIRTUAL TUTOR: Tutors offer enrolled students one-hour, private tutoring sessions on Zoom. Our students greatly benefit from the opportunity to practice English individually outside of class, making this role invaluable to their learning journey!
TUTOR REQUIREMENTS: Tutors are required to speak fluent English. Tutors assist students with specific English literacy skills: pronunciation, reading, and writing and are expected to become familiar with our learning platform to support students working on homework. This role requires the ability to guide with clarity, encouragement, and engagement, along with a foundational understanding of trauma-informed care. Although you don't need teaching experience to assist in this role, the role may requires minimal lesson preparation depending on student's needs.
COMMITMENT: All volunteers are expected to complete online training and observe experienced tutors before tutoring independently. We ask virtual volunteers to commit to at least 13 weeks, aligning with the duration of our trimester. Tutors select regular time slots that fit their personal schedules and maintain consistency throughout the trimester. Sessions are available on weekdays, afternoons, evenings, and weekends to accommodate various availability. All appointments take place via Zoom.
