CASA advocates are volunteers who serve children and youth who are involved in, or at-risk of involvement in, the child welfare system. A CASA Advocate provides a consistent, constant presence in the child’s life and many times are the only one consistent, constant person in their life throughout their case. CASA volunteers engage with the child during regular, weekly visits and build a relationship with that child. Their goal is to be a trusted adult in their life, making sure they are safe in their placement and that their needs are being met. They will collaborate with the other people and professionals involved in the child’s life, including their caseworker, attorney, family members, foster parents, kinship providers, teachers, and others. They will make recommendations in court about what is in the best interest of the child through written and verbal updates to help the judge make the best decision about that child’s future. Ultimately, they ensure the child’s voice is heard in court.
