Cataloging & Digital Assets Consultant (MLIS)

    About Us:

The Donovan’s Venom is a 501c3 nonprofit organization focused on curating universal accessibility to fine arts and music education for all. We are passionately dedicated to ensuring that everyone, regardless of financial circumstances, has access to high-quality music education, performance opportunities, and fine art. We aim to inspire, empower, and uplift communities by fostering a love for music and the arts through our commitment to education, inclusivity, diversity, and social impact, which drives us to expand our reach continually and enrich the lives of those we serve.

Project Overview: We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Metadata Librarian / Digital Asset Managerto design and implement a systematic organization structure for our library of original works. This library consists of both physical volumes and digital assets (e-books/PDFs). The goal of this project is to create a seamless, searchable inventory that bridges our physical shelves and our digital database.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Bibliographic Cataloging: Utilize ISBNs to pull and verify official bibliographic records. Assign accurate Library of Congress (LCC) or Dewey Decimal (DDC) call numbers and Subject Headings to ensure logical grouping.
    • System Architecture: Design and set up a unified cataloging system (Integrated Library System or Digital Asset Management software) that tracks both physical and digital formats.
    • Metadata Syncing: Ensure all digital files (PDFs, E-books) are tagged with the correct metadata, ensuring they sync perfectly with the physical inventory records.
    • Physical Organization: Oversee the initial physical labeling and shelving of the collection according to the new systematic order.
    • Documentation: Create a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Manual. This manual will serve as our "How-To" guide for maintaining the system, adding new titles, and managing check-outs or inventory audits after the contract ends.

    Qualifications:

    • Education: Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution is highly preferred.
    • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MARC21, RDA, and Dublin Core metadata standards. Experience with DAM (Digital Asset Management) software.
    • Experience: Proven track record in cataloging unique collections or working within a publishing/corporate library environment.

    Project Deliverables:

A fully searchable digital catalog of all assets.

A physically organized library with standardized spine labels and call numbers.
