Help an older adult, military veteran, or neighbor in need with their lawn — volunteer anywhere in the USA

Somewhere in your community, an older adult may be looking out at a lawn they can no longer safely maintain. A military veteran may be managing a disability. A neighbor may be quietly choosing between groceries and paying someone to mow.

You can be the person who shows up.

I Want To Mow Your Lawn® is a nationwide 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing completely free lawn mowing, yard maintenance, and seasonal outdoor help to older adults, military veterans, people with disabilities, and individuals or families facing financial hardship. Our mission is to preserve dignity, improve safety, support independent living, and bring neighbors together through meaningful, hands-on service—with environmentally conscious practices in mind.

Since 2020, our growing network of more than 1,800 volunteers has reached communities across all 50 states. Requests continue to grow, and we need caring volunteers everywhere—including in your ZIP code.

    What volunteers do

Volunteers provide practical, outdoor assistance such as:

    • Lawn mowing
    • Trimming and edging
    • Leaf removal
    • Light yard cleanup
    • Other basic seasonal yard-maintenance tasks

Each request comes through our intake system and is shared with volunteers in or near the homeowner’s community. You choose which opportunities work for your location, availability, equipment, and comfort level.

You will often see the difference you made before you even pack up: real-world, hands-on, tangible community impact.

No required schedule or ongoing commitment

There are no minimum monthly hours, meetings, fundraising requirements, or fixed schedules.

Volunteer once, once a season, once a month, or whenever an opportunity fits your schedule. Our guiding philosophy is simple:

We do what we can, when we can.

Requests may be submitted by homeowners, family members, caregivers, case managers, social workers, and community organizations. Our platform helps connect each request with available volunteers nearby.

    What we provide volunteers

    • Volunteer insurance coverage while completing an approved service
    • Access to our free mobile-friendly volunteer platform
    • The ability to find and claim nearby service opportunities
    • Tools to log visits, service hours, notes, and before-and-after photos
    • Privacy-protected calling and texting so you can coordinate without sharing your personal phone number
    • Tracked and documented volunteer hours for school, work, organizational, or approved service-hour requirements
    • Orientation materials, outreach resources, and support from a nationally recognized nonprofit
    • Potential equipment-support and upgrade opportunities for active volunteers through participating outdoor-equipment partners

Bringing your own lawn equipment is helpful, but you can still register and explore available opportunities if you do not currently own equipment.

    Who this opportunity is for

This opportunity may be a great fit for:

    • Individuals who can safely operate lawn or yard equipment
    • Families looking to volunteer together
    • Students earning community-service hours
    • Retirees and community members
    • Scout troops and youth organizations with adult supervision
    • Landscapers willing to donate an occasional service
    • Civic clubs, faith-based groups, and neighborhood organizations
    • Corporate, employee-resource-group, and team-volunteer programs

Whether you help with one lawn or become a regular volunteer, your time can help someone remain safer, more comfortable, and more connected to their community.

If you are looking for one of the most direct ways to help your neighborhood—and truly help thy neighbor—this is it.

    Know someone who needs assistance?

Older adults, military veterans, people with disabilities, and individuals or families experiencing financial hardship may request free lawn or yard assistance.

Family members, caregivers, case managers, social workers, and community organizations may also submit a request on someone’s behalf.

Service is always based on local volunteer availability. We cannot guarantee when or whether a volunteer will be available, but every request helps us identify where additional community support is needed.
