About Restoring Our Youth Organization Inc. (R.O.Y.O.)

At Restoring Our Youth Organization Inc. (R.O.Y.O), we believe that every young person no matter their circumstances has the potential to thrive when given the right opportunities, guidance, and support. Our goal is to empower vulnerable youth to overcome challenges and begin their journey toward restoration and success. At Restoring Our Youth Organization, we believe in equal opportunity and inclusive growth. Our volunteers are expected to dedicate 8 to 10 hours a week. Every role here matters and every team member helps us move closer to a world where every young person feels seen, supported, and capable of success.

    About the Role

Reporting to the Executive Vice President of Operations, the Internship Coordinator plays a critical role in launching and running R.O.Y.O.’s brand new College to Credit Program. This role is responsible for overseeing all volunteer staff who join the organization to fulfill a college internship or practicum program. The Internship Coordinator serves as the essential bridge between interns, volunteer leaders, and educational institutions—ensuring strong accountability, positive institutional relationships, and structured professional growth for all program participants.

    What You’ll Do

    • Recruitment & Outreach: Actively recruit student talent by attending and representing R.O.Y.O. at college job fairs, career fairs, and networking events; screen applicants and place interns into appropriate organizational staff positions.
    • Program Management & Oversight: Lead and run the College to Credit Program, establishing operational processes to onboard, support, and evaluate all college interns and practicum volunteers.
    • Regular Check-ins & Support: Conduct consistent 1-on-1 and group check-ins with interns and their respective volunteer leaders to monitor progress, address challenges, and support project completion.
    • Educational Partnerships: Cultivate and foster positive, collaborative relationships with colleges, universities, and academic advisors to maintain internship referral pathways and satisfy academic credit criteria.
    • Evaluations & Accountability: Oversee the evaluation process, conducting midterm and final performance appraisals while ensuring mutual accountability between interns, volunteer leaders, and the organization.
    • Onboarding & Orientation: Facilitate structured orientation sessions for incoming interns to set clear expectations regarding organizational values, commitment, and deliverables.
    • Record Keeping & Compliance: Maintain accurate records of intern hours, required academic documentation, evaluations, and confidentiality agreements.
    • Continuous Improvement: Stay current with best practices in internship management and non-profit volunteer administration to continuously refine program structure.

    What You Bring

    • Must be located in the United States of America, preferably in the Chicagoland area.
    • Minimum 1 year of administrative or program coordination experience (Associate degree acceptable alternative).
    • Solid organizational, time-management, and leadership skills with strong attention to detail.
    • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to foster positive relationships with educational institutions and student staff.
    • High school diploma/GED required; Bachelor's degree in human resources, education, business administration, or related field is a plus.
    • Proficient in Google Suite and open to learning new tools.
    • Possess excellent crisis/conflict management skills and/or willing to learn.
    • Desire to learn and grow professionally in the field of non-profit management.
    • Engaging, responsive, and proactive communication style.
    • Adaptable, collaborative, and self-motivated approach to work.
    • Ability to establish and maintain highly professional, effective working relationships with leadership, volunteer staff, academic advisors, and community stakeholders.
    • High degree of tact, discretion, and diplomacy in handling sensitive student/intern evaluations and performance matters.
    • Alignment with and commitment to upholding R.O.Y.O.’s Motto Statement, Statement of Values, and stated Mission and Vision.
