Position Title: Volunteer Microsoft 365, Dataverse & Azure CRM Developer / Power Platform Specialist
Duration: Project-based; initial 6–10 weeks, with priorities, milestones, and any extension agreed upon at the start.
Location: Remote.
Volunteer Opportunity Description:
Are you an experienced Microsoft 365 and Power Platform developer with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Dataverse and Azure? Mommy’s Heart is seeking a skilled volunteer to expand and improve our existing custom CRM—not replace it—by developing new features and integrating them with the tools our team already uses.
Our CRM operates within the Microsoft 365, Dataverse, Azure, and SharePoint environment. It supports confidential case management, volunteer onboarding, legal and mental-health referrals, social services, partnerships, and nonprofit administration. We have established workflows and dashboard designs, and need someone who can translate those requirements into secure, working components.
The project will be organized into agreed phases. Priority work includes role-specific dashboards, electronic forms, client profiles and AI case summaries, document organization, case assignments, searchable records, and automated notifications. Because we serve survivors and children, confidentiality, access controls, reliability, and careful testing are essential.
All sensitive client and organizational records must remain within our approved Microsoft environment; they must not be synchronized to Salesforce or external systems. Changes must preserve existing records, permissions, and the approved CRM design.
Responsibilities:
As a Volunteer Microsoft 365, Dataverse & Azure CRM Developer, you will enhance our current system in coordination with Mommy’s Heart leadership and technical volunteers. Depending on the agreed priorities, responsibilities may include:
- CRM Assessment & Development: Review the current Dataverse data model, app components, Azure configuration, workflows, and existing code; identify issues and safely add or improve components without rebuilding the CRM or losing data.
- Role-Based Dashboards & Navigation: Implement approved dashboards for different user roles, with intuitive menus, assigned cases, notifications, quick links, and access to relevant Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Forms, Lists, and other tools.
- Client Profiles & Case Management: Build or refine searchable client records, case assignment/reassignment, case status, and the tabs OVERVIEW, INTAKE, LEGAL, CLIENT COMMUNICATIONS, SOCIAL SERVICES, CAREER BUILDING, CASE NOTES, OTHER DOCUMENTS, ACTIVITY/CHANGE LOG, and CLOSING.
- Electronic Intake, Forms & Accounts: Support the sequence of signed Service Agreement → client account creation → staff-assisted electronic Intake Summary; improve volunteer registration, onboarding, signed forms, document generation, and prevention of duplicate profiles.
- SharePoint Document Integration: Connect CRM records to secure client folders in the SharePoint CLIENTS library; enable categorized uploads, standardized folder structures, preview/download, document indexing, and activity tracking without unnecessary duplication.
- AI Case Summary & Timeline: Implement a prominent AI Case Summary on each client Overview, initially drawn from authorized intake/application materials and refreshable from permitted records, with source references, human review, and separation from the professional Intake Summary. Build a distinct Case Timeline.
- Workflows & Notifications: Use Power Automate and Dataverse events to support new-case alerts, assignment updates, form submissions, uploads, case-note changes, referrals, and other targeted Outlook/Teams notifications; maintain readable audit/change history.
- Search, Directories & Administrative Tools: Add permissions-aware keyword search, filters, exportable contact and partner directories, document indexes, grants tracking, staff time sheets, onboarding documents, and controlled email outreach to selected contact groups.
- Security, Permissions & Account Settings: Enforce Dataverse and SharePoint access controls. Only the designated Super Administrator may change security roles/permissions or deactivate/reactivate accounts; other authorized administrators may create accounts and assign/reassign cases without those higher privileges.
- Azure & Microsoft Integration: Configure or extend Microsoft Entra ID authentication, Microsoft Graph/Dataverse APIs, Azure Functions or app services where necessary, and secure connections among Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint, Outlook, and Teams.
- Testing, Documentation & Handoff: Develop in an approved test environment; validate permissions and functionality with leadership, deploy reviewed changes in phases, troubleshoot defects, and document solutions so future volunteers can maintain the CRM.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated hands-on expertise with Microsoft 365, Microsoft Dataverse, Microsoft Azure, and the Power Platform; examples of CRM or business application projects required.
- Strong Power Apps experience (model-driven and/or canvas apps), Dataverse tables/relationships, views, forms, security roles, and Power Automate cloud flows.
- Proficiency integrating SharePoint document libraries with Dataverse and Microsoft 365 services, including Microsoft Graph, Outlook, and Teams.
- Advanced understanding of Azure services, Microsoft Entra ID, secure application access, API integrations, and troubleshooting authentication or permission problems.
- Working knowledge of Dataverse Web API, JavaScript/TypeScript and/or C#/.NET, Azure Functions, custom connectors, plug-ins, or other extensibility tools when low-code features are insufficient.
- Ability to implement least-privilege access, record-level restrictions, secure secrets management, auditing, and protection of confidential records about adults and children.
- Experience with Power Platform solutions, version control, development/test/production environments, testing, deployment, and rollback practices.
- Experience with AI-assisted summaries using approved Microsoft/Azure tools, source-grounding, privacy safeguards, and human review is strongly preferred.
- Experience with electronic forms/e-signatures, Power Pages or other secure user portals, duplicate detection, and searchable data/reporting is a plus.
- Clear communication, respect for documented requirements, commitment to confidentiality, and alignment with Mommy’s Heart’s mission.
Expected Deliverables:
- A brief assessment of the current CRM and a prioritized, realistic work plan with approved milestones and technical dependencies.
- Working, tested CRM improvements from the agreed feature list, implemented within the existing Microsoft environment.
- Verified role-based dashboards, access restrictions, case workflows, and secure SharePoint/Power Automate integrations for completed features.
- A documented review of security, account permissions, notifications, data integrity, and testing results before deployment.
- Editable Power Platform solutions, configuration details, custom code (if any), integration documentation, and organized project assets retained by Mommy’s Heart.
- A concise administrator guide and handoff/training session so the team can manage and extend the completed components.
Compensation and Required Resources:
This is an unpaid volunteer opportunity; no salary or stipend is provided. Mommy’s Heart will provide appropriately scoped access to its existing systems and approved documentation. The volunteer should have their own computer and reliable internet access. Any new licensing, Azure usage, subscriptions, or paid third-party tools must receive advance organizational approval; volunteers are not authorized to incur expenses on behalf of Mommy’s Heart.
Benefits:
- Apply advanced Microsoft cloud development skills to a mission-driven nonprofit serving survivors and children.
- Develop impactful Dataverse, Azure, and Power Platform solutions for a live nonprofit CRM, with approved portfolio use.
- Work on meaningful workflow automation, security, user experience, and potentially responsible AI capabilities.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary volunteer, legal, and social-service team.
- Receive professional recognition and, where appropriate, a letter of recommendation.
- Enjoy remote work and flexible scheduling around agreed milestones.
